Introduction to the Four Body Systems

Plato said “The part can never be well unless the whole is well.”

Much of what I talk about regarding health and wellness has its roots in Hawaii’s spiritual system, Huna, as well as other ancient spiritual traditions.

It is thought that many of the world’s religions have their roots in this one ancient philosophy. Joseph Campbell’s work on this is unmatched, as well as that of Max Freedom Long and Carl Jung, who came to many of the same conclusions regarding consciousness and spirituality. Even the Christian concept of the Trinity has its roots in this body of knowledge.

What I’m speaking of is the Four Bodies.

Optimizing the flow of Mana…allows one to literally achieve super-human heights in personal development, physical health, emotional wellness and spiritual enlightenment.

While this is a super in-depth philosophy, I’m going to simplify it here to give a brief overview.

The Four Bodies consist of the Conscious Mind, Unconscious Mind, the Physical Body and the High Self. These four bodies make up the nature of man.

Whoa.

At a very basic level, keeping these four bodies in balance makes for a happy, healthy, Bliss-filled life.

At a more complex level, balancing or optimizing the flow of Mana, or energy between these four bodies allows one to literally achieve super-human heights in personal development, physical health, emotional wellness and spiritual enlightenment.

Let’s start with the basics.

The Mental Body / The Conscious Mind

The Conscious Mind is the area of thought, patterns, self image, goals and values. It’s the part of our brain used in judging self or others, discernment, intention-setting, imagination, rationalization and thought-patterns or mindset. The Conscious Mind suggests or gives orders to the Unconscious Mind. Perception of the outer world resides in the Conscious Mind. One could say that the Conscious Mind is the big brother—judging, sometimes even outright bullying the whole Self into submission.

The Conscious Mind does play an important role, in that it’s the realm of the Self that can make positive decisions. It’s where we can rationalize, and make positive (or necessarily negative) discernment about the world around us. We can use the Conscious Mind to think positively, to visualize creatively, and to make decisions that serve our well being.

When the Mental Body is out of balance we can experience racing thoughts, or negative ‘mental movies’, poor self image, and a critical or judgmental attitude. We make poor decisions and can quickly manifest illness, poverty and other negative scenarios when our Mental Body needs healing.

The Unconscious Mind eavesdrops on everything we think, say, or do. Ponder that for a moment…

The Emotional Body / The Unconscious Mind

The Unconscious Mind’s number one priority is to run and preserve the Physical Body, and it has the blueprint of perfect health in the High Self. It works through the Heart, and is the domain of emotions and (gut) feelings.

The Unconscious Mind is the seat and flow of all energy through all four bodies, and generates, stores and transmits that energy. It stores memories and represses memories with unresolved emotion. The Emotional Body is where self care, self love, love for others (including romantic love) and our entire emotional life resides. Limiting decisions and beliefs are also stored in the Unconscious.

All learning, change and behavior happen in the Unconscious Mind, and it has the mentality of a 3-4 year old child, so when dealing with the Unconscious, it’s important to keep your language simple and direct. One very important aspect of the Unconscious is that it does NOT process negatives.

The Unconscious Mind eavesdrops on everything we think, say, or do. Ponder that for a moment…

When the Emotional Body is out of balance, we can experience depression, mood swings, trigger response and decreased immune function. Illness, anxiety, and physical and emotional problems can occur when the Unconscious needs healing. Remember, the Unconscious Mind’s number one priority is to run and preserve the Physical Body.

The Physical Body

The Physical Body is where all physical, real-world, tangible manifestation occurs. Prosperity, outer appearances, tangible things and people, and our actual physical health and wellness are all areas in the physical realm. It’s where the results show up, positive or negative.

When the Physical Body is out of balance, we can experience weight issues, sleep problems, exhaustion, illness and disease. We can manifest financial instability, fear, insecurity and lack of physical safety or loss.

Infinite knowledge and power are available to us through connection to the High Self—she’s worth getting to know.

The Spiritual Body / High Self

The Spiritual Body is the domain of the High Self, our spirit, or one true self. It’s where we practice personal development, connection to God and Personal Power. The High Self brings energy to all other body systems through the Unconscious Mind, and is the realm of self healing, unconditional love, contact with the Collective Unconscious and a connection to all that is. Infinite knowledge and power are available to us through connection to the High Self—she’s worth getting to know.

When the Spiritual Body is out of balance we can experience anxiety, depression, mental illness or a lack of purpose or drive. We can be left wondering what this life is about, and experience a sort of wandering haze.

Living with the knowledge of these Four Bodies and working to keep them in balance has been life changing for me. The Unconscious Mind holds knowledge that we cannot even conceive of and it’s worth creating rapport with this part of your Self, for when you do, unlimited change, healing and power are available to you for the creation of your own Bliss-filled life, as well as creating change in all of humanity.
